Week 37 Update

So I figured I would write about what is happening with Baby R since repeating it over and over just makes me more nervous & worried.
So at my appt on Wednesday the baby jumped from being 1 week ahead to almost 3 weeks ahead so they wanted to do an ultrasound to check on a few things. What they found at Covenant Hospital is that he was a rather large baby(weighing 8lbs, 12oz), extra amniotic fluid, and that his kidneys were dilated to almost double what they should be(enlarged with fluid backup). So with all those things combined they wanted Iowa City to have a 2nd opinion since they have specialists in that field for children whereas Waterloo does not. So we made the trip to Iowa City yesterday afternoon and got another ultrasound done. They found that the amniotic fluid was normal, his kidneys were still dilated but not as bad as what Waterloo saw and that he also had a full bladder which might make them back up a little bit more, and as for size they got 9lbs, 1oz! The technician did say they could be off by 20% in the weight since we are so far along it is harder to determine correct weight. So he could be anywhere from 7.5lbs-10.5lbs! Yikes! I like the lower # better! The doctors down there also wanted me to re-test for Gestational Diabetes since he is such a large baby. I passed that test at 28 weeks in the normal range, but they said I could have developed it after that. So my doctor wants me to repeat that tomorrow morning by fasting for 12 hours without any food or water! That is going to be tough since I am so thirsty all the time. Then I have to drink this sugary drink and get my blood taken at 1hr and again at 2hours. *sigh* But by all his measurements he was measuring at 40-41 wks. The technician laughed when she measured his leg bones and she he was going to be tall just like his daddy, but that all the measurements are in proportion to his body, so that is good. They also saw his heart, brain, and other major organs and said they all looked very good! Just those dang kidneys. 2 hopeful possibilities are that there is just too much pressure in the uterus that he can't urinate very well and that is why they are backed up OR they do see this in boys sometimes and especially large baby boys while in utero, but corrects itself once born. So now we wait. I have another appt with my regular doctor on Wednesday to see what she thinks about the findings from Iowa City. It sounds like we just wait until he is born and then we go back to Iowa City within that first week to get an ultrasound on his kidneys to see how they are functioning. They could just correct themselves after he is born once he doesn't all the pressure from the amniotic fluid pushing on him and once he can go the bathroom normally(so lets pray for that) Otherwise they will see what kind of blockage they have whether he would need surgery to remove the blockage or if just antibiotics are needed to help prevent an infection. They don't really know and we won't know for sure until after he is born. So that is pretty much what is going on at this point. So he can come at anytime as he is obviously fully developed!

I also found out that I do carry Group B Strep which is found in 1 in 3 women. It is just a bacteria that doesn't harm the woman and would never know we carry it unless tested but it can pass to baby in delivery which can cause the baby to get really sick. So I will for sure be hooked to an IV with antibiotics once labor starts or my water breaks. So with that and being A-negative blood (which they have to test the umbilical cord once baby is born to see what type he is) might require me to get another shot(not a biggy, already had 1 shot at 28 weeks), plus I have low iron so I am on iron pills every day. Then with Iowa City wanting me to get tested again for Gestational diabetes(which I am hoping I don't have still) swelling in my feet & legs, and the fact I can barely move from sitting to standing anymore.... I am becoming a hot mess! So he needs to come soon!!!

So hopefully the next posting is that he has arrived!
Oh and here are a few more photos of him done yesterday...
